The Master’s program “Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures” is a multiple-degree diploma offered through joint training activities by the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of TU Dortmund University (Germany), the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy) and the Department of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France).
The program qualifies graduates for research-related and technical professional activities in the areas of

  • Advanced Mechanics for Innovative Materials and Structures,
  • Materials and Structures under Extreme Conditions,
  • Materials and Structures in their Environment.

It also prepares students for Ph.D. studies on advanced research topics related to the mechanics of materials and structures in the field of civil engineering.

Study Structure and Time Schedule

The degree program MS^2 consists of a standard period of study of four semesters. Admission is only possible in the Winter Semester. The students of each cohort study at TU Dortmund University in the first semester, at the University of Trento in the second semester and at Ecole Centrale de Nantes in the third semester. The fourth semester is devoted to the Master Thesis’ work, which takes place either at one of the three Universities or at an international partner institution associated with the program available in the box download.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of civil engineering according to the European Qualifications Framework, or another comparable degree in a comparable course of study of at least three years;
  • Proven knowledge of the English language of at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Applications for September 2024 entry open and close as follows: 

  • For students with an international bachelor’s degree: from 2 January to 15 July 2024
  • For students with a German/European bachelor’s degree: from 15 March to 15 August 2024

Tuitions Fees

The current tuition fee for the program stands at approximately 1500€ per semester. This sum encompasses the tuition fee, known as "Semesterbeitrag," at TU Dortmund University, along with the associated fees required for enrollment at the University of Trento and Ecole Centrale de Nantes.
