A Window into Nature: Live Kestrel Nesting in Mesiano

The Ecology Laboratory of the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) is pleased to announce the installation of a real-time monitoring camera for a pair of kestrels (Falco tinnunculus) nesting at the Mesiano building.

For several years, a pair of these fascinating raptors has chosen DICAM's windows as an ideal breeding ground. Starting in spring 2025, thanks to the new installation, you can observe the development of the nest — from incubation to the fledging of the young — through a live video and audio stream, accessible at the following address: Mesiano Kestrel Nest website.

The webpage also offers informative content about the species, as well as recorded videos and photos. Its goal is to raise public awareness about the importance of conservation and non-invasive observation of urban wildlife.

It is strongly recommended that you do not disturb the kestrels, especially during the delicate phases of nesting and chick growth.

This initiative presents a unique opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate biodiversity, even in urban settings, thereby contributing to a culture of respect and care for the ecosystems around us.
