Visiting Fellows

In 2018, the visit of Prof. Richard ROTUNNO, senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder (USA) was founded as part of the invitation program for visiting professor, who has held a series of lectures in the master’s degree program in Environmental Meteorology.

In 2019, the following activities were organized:

  • Joint visit of Prof. Robert BORNSTEIN, Department of Meteorology of San Jose State University (USA), and Prof. Sergej ZILITINKEVICH, Finnish Institute of Meteorology (Finland), who has held a series of lectures in the master’s degree course in Environmental Meteorology and conducted research related to the parameterization of turbulence in mesoscale weather models;
  • visit of prof. Pier Luigi VIDALE, Department of Meteorology of the University of Reading (Great Britain), who held a series of lectures in the master’s degree course in Environmental Meteorology and conducted research activities related to the study of surface-exchange atmosphere on complex terrain;
  • visita nell'ottobre 2019 del Prof. Henk DIJKSTRA del Dipartimento di Fisica dell'Università di Utrecht (Olanda), che ha tenuto il corso "Modern data-based and complex systems approaches to problems in the environmental sciences”.

The restrictive measures introduced to counter the spread of the pandemic from Covid-19 have strongly compromised the invitation program of visiting professors and have resulted in the cancellation of almost all the activities that had been planned. In 2020 he was invited by Prof. Luca Caracoglia of Northeastern University, Boston, USA, who participated as a lecturer at the 2nd International Summer School online "MECHRES20 - Mechanics and Performance of Resilient Structures and Infrastructures" organized by DICAM, which took place from 8 to 11 September 2020.

In 2021, due to the restrictive measures introduced to counter the spread of the pandemic by Covid-19, the invitation program of visiting professors was redefined with reference to the academic year 2021/22, and two internal calls for applications were issued. In 2021 he was invited by Prof. Felipe P.J. De Barros (Associate Professor of the University of Southern California, Sonny Astani Department of Civil), who worked at the Department from September to December 2021.
