The research group in Forest Ecology is mainly interested in the different aspects that characterize the ecology and planning of forests with special attention to the mountain areas and the issues arisen in the last decades due both to the abandonment of the traditional agricultural, woodland and shepherd activities and to the tourism development at high altitude sites.
The group works on the development and validation of research methodologies for land analysis and on the identification of new strategies for the sustainable management of the mountain territory. At moment the information regarding the dynamics and phenomena on the evolution in the use of the mountain land are not complete and therefore the possible consequences of these changes on the ecosystem equilibrium and on the safety of human settlements are not well known.
The group has a complete set of instruments for dendro-chronological analysis, specific software for the management of environmental data and equipments for on site explorations.
